HSE investigates death at Cumbrian pre-cast plant

5 Sep 11 A man was killed on Friday at a Cumbria pre-cast company when a concrete staircase he was working on toppled and crushed him.

Martin McGlasson, 37, worked for ACP Concrete in Workington. He was polishing the nearly completed structure as it stood on its side. Why it fell over is being investigated by the Health & Safety Executive.

ACP Concrete is part of the Thomas Armstrong group of companies. Thomas Armstrong managing director Keith Denham told the local press: “Martin was a first class guy and he had been here at the company for a long time. His brother also works for us in the timber section and they are both really good workers.

“It is a terrible day for the company and for all the guys who work here. It is our worst nightmare and it looks like it was just a freak accident but we will be back in operation on Monday morning."

“It is an absolutely tragic incident and our thoughts are with his family.”
