Work starts on site in March to remove asbestos, strip out and demolish the large industrial building.
The structure is a single storey traditional construction industrial building covering a footprint area of approximately 10,000 square metres. It has a structural steel frame including a nine bay North light roof construction covered with profile sheeting.
In the early 1950s, Building A2 was a munitions factory and was subsequently developed into an apprentice training school,stores and associated offices. In 2000 the building was converted to provide two separate areas, one providing archival storage facilities and the other forming part of the West Cheshire College.
Greg Lannon, operations director of the demolition contractor’s Northern Division, said that the company had been specifically targetingthe decommissioning sector, while he himself has many years’ experience working on the Capenhurst site decommissioning various areas of the nuclear plant.
