Bethany Christian Trust’s Matthew House is a four-bed homeless hostel in Bathgate.
Through its network of Patron Partners and Supporters, CRASH has provided technical advice and free building materials to help Bethany Christian Trust renovate Matthew House, a four-bed homeless hostel in Bathgate.
The work, which is now nearing completion after seven months work, will ensure Matthew House provides an environment where residents can learn the skills and gain the confidence needed to move forward with their lives and resettle successfully in to their own homes, CRASH said.
Matthew House provides accommodation and support to young men who have found themselves homeless. A structured support programme includes help on tenancy issues, group work, special interests, topical discussions, sport, outings and house meetings. Residents are encouraged to make full use of this support and to participate in the programme. Each resident has a dedicated support worker and the units are staffed 24 hours a day.
“This project is a great example of the practical help we are providing to homeless people all over the UK,” said CRASH chief executive Francesca Roberts. “It's rewarding work for us and also for our Patron Partners and Supporters, who share our goals and make them possible through their commitment to our cause. To our Patron Partners and Suppliers thank you all for your generosity and continuing support.”
Quantity surveyor Adrian Black, of Adrian Black Associates, added: “Bethany Christian Trust is an organisation with a clear vision of their objectives and they understand how to go about achieving them. The support of CRASH made a significant contribution to the capital investment in this project from the feasibility stage onwards through to delivery of construction. My involvement in this project has given me a realisation of what can be achieved within the charitable sector”
Matthew House came to CRASH in June 2009 for assistance in upgrading its accommodation and amenities. CRASH provided a cash grant of £3,000 towards the appointment of a local quantity surveyor.
CRASH further provided the project with more than £13,000 of free and discounted materials generously donated by the following suppliers:
- Baxi
- British Gypsum
- MK Electric
- Heckmondwike
- Altro
- Hunter Plastics
- Premdor
