The project has an estimated cost of €10.68m (£9m). “It will greatly expand the quality and scale of the wastewater infrastructure in the county and will provide capacity to support economic growth and to facilitate new development, while also preserving environmental and water quality standards,” said minister for the environment, community and local government Phil Hogan.
Galway County Council will now take the tendering process forward with a view to starting construction as quickly as possible.
Work is already under way on a related contract for the sewerage network.
