The design and build contracts are in the states of Rajasthan and Karnata-Telengana. Client for the work is Rail Vikash Nigam (RVNL), a special purpose vehicle wholly owned by the government of India under National Railway Board.
The contracts include the engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of the overhead equipment, switching stations, traction substations, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), signalling, telecommunications, building and other works. The three projects involve 563 km of railway electrification and five traction substations.
These projects are part of an investment plan conceived by government of India to eliminate capacity bottlenecks. It covers provision of strategic rail communication links to ports, major bridges for improving communication to the hinterland and the development of multi-modal transport corridors. The initiative has been given the name of National Rail Vikas Yojana.
