The project involves the design, construction, finance and 25-year operation and maintenance of a prison for 1000 medium-security male prisoners and the design, construction, finance and maintenance of a statewide services building. John Holland’s revenue from the contract is estimated to be AU$650m (£357m).
John Holland managing director Glenn Palin said that there would be significant benefits for the local community. “The Ravenhall Prison project will employ more than 700 people during peak construction periods, including staff, workforce and subcontractors,” he said. “This involves a target of 4% Indigenous employment. Economic benefits will also extend to local suppliers.”
Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2015 and is scheduled for completion in late 2017.
