Rafael Viñoly’s masterplan for the 40 acre (16.18 ha) site is divided into seven main development phases. As part of Phase One, LDA Design will be working alongside Ian Simpson Architects and dRMM.

The 1930s Grade II* listed landmark will be at the centre of an £8bn redevelopment. A new town centre for the Vauxhall, Nine Elms and Battersea area will be created by building 3,500 new homes, 160,000 sq ft of offices and shops and restaurants, which will link the development with a new Northern Line underground station as well as new public space next to the Thames.

LDA Design director Rob Aspland said: “This is one of the biggest development opportunities in the UK since the London 2012 Olympics.  While that event helped to regenerate east London, this project will provide a massive boost to Wandsworth and southwest London.  We are delighted to be involved in both.”

Battersea Project Land Company (BPLC) has said that work at the site will begin later this year, with ground-breaking expected to begin in the second half of 2013.

The remaining phases, including the new underground station will follow later, with the entire development scheduled for completion in 2024.
