The ETTT Alliance will design and construct approximately 6km of new track as well as carrying out other work for bridges and stations.
By providing additional northbound routes for freight trains, the project will significantly reduce waiting times for freight trains and increase the reliability of both freight and passenger services.
Leighton Contractors managing director Craig Laslett said that the company “is committed to continuing to work with TfNSW to develop rail infrastructure and the freight network. Projects such as ETTT bring major benefits to commuters, the environment and the State’s economy.”
The ETTT Alliance expects to begin construction later this year, subject to planning approval, with project completion scheduled for mid-2016. ETTT is a key component of the Northern Sydney Freight Corridor (NSFC) programme to upgrade the 155km main north line between Sydney and Newcastle, which is a shared passenger and freight line.
