The development will create 57 high-quality stone-built family houses and apartments on the site of the former Craven council offices in Granville Street, close to the town centre.
Having now purchased the site, Lovell will start work next week. All 16 apartments and 41 houses, designed by Niemen Architects, are set to be completed in autumn 2015.
Through the construction programme, Lovell will also create apprenticeship training and work experience opportunities for local people. The company will employ local people to work on site wherever possible.
Forty-five of the homes will be for open market sale – including 10 that will be offered through the Lovell Choice low-cost home ownership scheme – with 12 homes for affordable and intermediate rent through Yorkshire Housing Association.
“We’re delighted that agreements have now been finalised and our team can start work,” said Lovell regional director Tony Tann. “This high-quality development will create attractive new housing providing both affordable homes for rent and housing for sale as well as homes available through the Lovell Choice scheme which helps people on to the housing ladder by enabling them to buy a percentage of a property. Importantly, it will also deliver jobs and training opportunities locally as part of our Lovell Legacy commitment to providing lasting benefits for communities.”
