The concept for the OCC was developed by the Ministry of Heritage & Culture to establish a national centre of culture as part of a strategy to promote cultural and artistic innovation.
The OCC will be the first of its kind in the Middle East, hosting three major buildings of national interest: the National Library with capacity to host five million volumes; Â the National Archives, which will act as a four storey exhibition, public event area and a research and administration wing; and the National Theatre, which will be able to accommodate more than 1,000 people.
In addition there will be four facility buildings, which will host a children’s library, cinema, gallery and workshop, literary society headquarters and lecture hall and retail areas.
The scheme also includes a landscaped area, the Oasis Fruit Garden, which will accommodate 1100 palm trees, 750 fruit trees and 32,500 smaller trees and shrubs.
