Richard McCarthy is leaving the Department for Communities & Local Government (DCLG), where he was director general for neighbourhoods for eight years, to become executive director for central government at Capita Symonds.

“I am looking forward to driving the business forward in this sector and further cementing Capita Symonds’ status as a leader in delivering a wealth of property and infrastructure solutions,” he said.

Capita Symonds managing director Jonathan Goring said: “There is an overwhelming need for government to realise efficiency savings and rationalise revenue generation and asset management. Richard’s experience and enthusiasm relating to how public private partnerships can achieve this will be invaluable in helping Capita Symonds to meet the needs of this sector.”

Before joining DCLG in 2003, Mr McCarthy was the chief executive of housing association Peabody Trust. Before that, he was group chief executive of the Horizon Housing Group.
