The project will provide accommodation units for 350 students across 12 levels, along with retail and office space. The existing buildings will be demolished with the exception of a three-storey façade that will be retained and incorporated into the new development.
The accommodation will comprise a mixture of 76 studio flats, 38 adaptable units and 236 units in cluster arrangements. The development will also include 673 square metres of retail area on the ground floor and 589 square metres of office space across three floors at the north end of the site.
This project is aiming for a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating and is planning to use solar photovoltaic panels and a combined heat and power system.
Demolition has already began and completion is scheduled for June 2013, for occupation in the 2013/2014 academic year.
