The new Newlands Primary School has been procured through the Improvement and Efficiency South East (IESE) framework.
The new school building will be built on the existing school site. The one-storey building will provide 14 classrooms and other facilities such as a school hall, staff room and offices, and provision for drama, music and art.Â
Once completed, the old building will be demolished to make way for sports pitches and play areas.
According to the design, photovoltaic cells will help achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘very good’.
Enabling works have started on site and the contract is due for completion in spring 2013. The new school will be complete by September 2012 ready for the new school year.
