Built in 1854 to serve visitors to the Crystal Palace building following its relocation from Hyde Park after the Great Exhibition of 1851, the renovated station will have improved access with three lifts connecting platforms to the ticket hall.
Platforms 1 and 2 will have tactile paving, new lighting, signage and high-level walkways to all other station platforms.
Work starts this month (February 2012), with a scheduled completion date of February 2013.
Mansell Rail was previously the fit-out contractor on the East London Extension Line, completing work at Dalston Junction, Haggerston, Hoxton and Shoreditch High Street stations, alongside Balfour Beatty/Carillion joint venture.
