After demolition of the existing building, the new scheme will be constructed using a steel frame and will include a green roof. Mechanical and electrical services will provide a minimum of 20% reduction in the facility’s carbon use. Landscaping will be coordinated with the local council’s plans to turn the surrounding park into a green area.
Once complete, the centre will be run by the Log Cabin charity and will provide facilities for local children of varying ages and disabilities. Rooms will be designed for various needs and will include a sensory room, day care nursery and Scout area.
The centre will be linked to the existing library, enhancing the facilities available to the community.
Work has recently started on site and is due to complete in July 2011.
