Urban&Civic secured planning permission for a new hotel with direct terminal access to London Stansted Airport, following a deal to acquire a two acre site from MAG Property, the property and development division of Manchester Airports Group (MAG) – the owner of Stansted Airport. Overall development cost is £45m.
The new building will stand eight stories tall on Bassingbourn Road and is scheduled to open in summer 2017. With 357 beds, it will be Europe’s largest Hampton by Hilton hotel.
McAleer & Rushe contracts director Peter Devlin said that his firm had become “the ‘go-to’ contractor for airport hotels because of our ability to provide design-led solutions for challenging locations”.
McAleer & Rushe has also built Hampton by Hilton hotels at London Gatwick Airport’s north terminal, at Waterloo station in London and in Bournemouth.
