The development is set to start this month on the Kingsway Business Park. It will comprise of 530,000 sq ft of chilled and freezer space, a plant deck with associated enabling and external works, offices, new car park and hard and soft landscaping, a vehicle wash and fuelling facility and a 131,000 sq ft service centre.
He building has designed to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating and ‘A’ energy performance rating. Computer modelling was used in the design process to help the building meet Asda’s sustainability targets including:
- Collection of waste heat from the refrigeration plant to serve under floor heating in both the ancillary and office area;
- Low energy LED lighting inside and out;
- Installation of a biofuel plant and photovoltaic cells for electricity generation;
- A combined heat and power plant fuelled by renewable biofuels;
- Rainwater harvesting;
- Natural ventilation design for offices with ventilation stacks on the roof.
