GB Building Solutions was selected for the project in February 2015, but collapsed into administration the following month. Morgan Sindall has now taken over.
The new six-storey building will be home to the university’s Law School and part of the School of Music, Humanities & Media. It will be adjacent to the Creative Arts Building and the most recent addition to the campus, named Student Central, completed in January 2014, at a cost of £22.5m.
Overlooking the town’s Shorehead roundabout, one of the main road arteries in Huddersfield, the new Law & Humanities building was designed by architect AHR.
With the start of construction delayed by GB’s collapse, the completion date has been put back from September 20156 to the start of 2017.
Morgan Sindall has previously carried out specialist refurbishment projects at the University of Huddersfield, and in addition to its work on the new Law and Humanities building it has also been awarded a contract to carry out a development at the university’s Institute of Railway Research.
