The development includes construction of a new two-storey student services building and a new main reception area and learning zone at the university’s College Lane campus. Work also includes the refurbishment of a number of existing buildings at the campus in Hatfield.
The project is part of the university’s ‘2020 Estates Vision’ redevelopment plan that will transform the university’s College Lane and de Havilland campuses.
The new-build development is designed to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating, with several water-saving features and a green roof, planted with sedum vegetation to absorb rainwater and provide insulation.
The existing buildings will be remodelled internally, creating open-plan learning and student union facilities.
The project is due to complete in May 2014 and will see around 80 people working on site at the peak of construction.
