The work for Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation involves design of the east-west corridor extension, known as Reach 1, from Byappanahalli to Whitefield via International Tech Park, connecting the eastern part of the city. It consists of 16km of viaduct, 13 new elevated stations and a new intermodal transit hub at Baiyappanhalli. Mott MacDonald is also designing the 6.3km elevated viaduct in the Reach 4A extension of the north-south corridor from Puttenahalli Cross to Anjanapura Township, including five elevated stations.
S Pramod Kumar, Mott MacDonald’s project director, said: “Our work on the second phase of this prestigious project builds on our phase one role as detailed design consultant for Reaches 3B, 4 and 4A. We’re designing five underground stations, including the Majestic interchange station, as well as providing mechanical, electrical and public health engineering services for a sixth underground station.”
When the transport system is finished it will be capable of carrying 1.5 million passengers per day and reduce journey times across the city.
The Reach 4A extension is expected to be completed early 2017, with the Reach 1 extension due to be finished by the end of the same year.
