The aim of the project is to reduce congestion in the city of Czestochowa by diverting traffic onto the newly constructed 25km motorway. Four junctions and accompanying structures - including four bridges, nine road overpasses and 15 viaducts - will also be built as part of the scheme.
Mott MacDonald will verify design documentation and provide construction supervision services. The consultancy will then monitor operations for a 15-month period.
Malgorzata Piatek, Mott MacDonald’s project director, said: “The newly constructed section of the motorway runs through Natura 2000, a network of nature protection areas in the territory of the EU. Two environmental experts have been employed to fully control and minimise the impact of potential environmental risks.”
The scheme is being co-financed by the country’s General Directorate for National Roads & Motorways and the European Union (EU).
Construction of the A1 is due to be completed early 2019.
