The consultancy was hired by the city in June to provide engineering, architectural and public private partnership advisory services on the CAD$278m (£170m) project. The new facility will replace the city’s existing Mosaic Stadium, which is the home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Club, a Canadian Football League team.
The new sunken-bowl style stadium will be designed to maximise spectator comfort. The design concept features a spectator roof that will protect fans from the weather while still being an open-air facility.
Mott MacDonald’s project director Leon Higgins said: “This is a real innovation in North America, to design a stadium roof so tuned to the local environmental conditions to dramatically improve spectator conditions. We have worked closely with our architects, Pattern Design, to achieve this.”
Built in 1910, the Mosaic Stadium is one of the oldest buildings in the Canadian Football League and has been renovated several times. Land will be released for urban regeneration following its demolition.
ե֭ of the new stadium is due to begin late 2013, with completion expected in 2017.
