The £108m building is being developed as part of RCA’s planned transformation into graduate university focused on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Mott MacDonald is working with Equals and Herzog & de Meuron to deliver the project.
RCA, whose history dates back 180 years, is recognised for design and art. It is now looking to the future and is seeking to expand into the domains of computer and materials science. The aim is for the new facility to have an impact in areas such as connected cities, robotics, the internet of things and intelligent mobility, sustainability and mass migration.
Mott MacDonald will deliver building services, civil, structural, fire and acoustic engineering as well as strategic brief development and cost consultancy on the project. The consultancy and Equals will also provide project management support for the facility, with Herzog & de Meuron acting as architect.
Mott MacDonald technical director Henry Luker said: "Projects like this don’t come along very often. We’re looking forward to working with the RCA and Herzog & de Meuron to deliver a world-class new building that will benefit all the students at the university for generations to come.”
