Network Rail and its contractors Skanska and demolition specialist Armac have been working in Bermondsey to create space for the construction of a new dive-under to allow more trains to run into London Bridge.
The timelapse footage below shows progress.
Skanska was awarded the £60m main contract back in May 2012. ()
The former viaduct will be replaced with a section of lowered track that will allow Charing Cross trains to pass beneath Thameslink services and pop up again on the other side, for a clear run into the capital. Where possible, the original structures have been retained and strengthened to continue to carry London’s oldest railway.
The Bermondsey dive under, scheduled to be completed in 2017, is part of the Thameslink Programme.
