TSL is based at Craignure on the Isle of Mull and has several hydro-electric projects on the island under way.
It has a fleet of 20 excavators but the EC300D is its first Volvo. It was chosen specifically for breaking rock with a hydraulic hammer. “We wanted a large enough machine that had sufficient capacity for rock breaking and had been considering the Volvo product for a while,” said TSL managing director Andrew Knight.
“We also had to consider our requirements in line with the logistical limitations of moving larger equipment onto and around the islands so settled on the 30-tonne EC300D as the optimum prime mover. So far we’ve been impressed with the machine’s performance,” he added.
The new EC300D is powered by a Volvo six cylinder D8H Stage IIIB engine developing 228hp. The machine supplied to TSL Contractors has been fitted with a hydraulic quick-fit for changing between hydraulic hammer and buckets.
