Designed for rigid dump trucks, they are available initially in a 27R49 size, with additional sizes becoming available later in the year.
Cut and impact resistance is also improved, says the manufacturer, by a 10% thicker undertread between the protective plies and tread base. Â The tread design provides an increased contact patch as the tyre wear down, while sculpted cooling vents help keep running temperatures low, it is claimed.
Compared to the older XDR tire, the steel protective plies are 60% stronger the sidewalls are twice as thick to withstand more punishment.
The new tyre has been put through more than two million hours of testing at Michelin’s proving grounds in Almeria, Spain and at other sites across the globe.
