Six one-hour talks are on offer, covering some of the most common issues which NHBC inspectors encounter on residential developments. From rising damp and cracking walls to uneven floors and poor fire safety, the talks include guidance on how such issues can be avoided and outline the latest best practice construction methods.
The six talks are open now for booking from January 2011:
Brickwork and blockwork
Carpentry and joinery carcassing
Foundations, ground floors and drainage
Roof coverings – for roofing contractors
Fire stopping – for various trades
Dry-lining and plastering – for plasterers and dry liners
The talks are delivered by expert NHBC building inspectors and are designed for site operatives and site managers seeking to develop their knowledge of key construction practices. Talks can be held on site or at any convenient venue, from a site office to a nearly completed property.
Rob Lockey, training services manager at NHBC, said: “NHBC developed its Trade Talks series to directly tackle some of the most common construction flaws which our inspectors witness. By raising awareness of these issues – and how to prevent them – Trade Talks have the potential to significantly reduce the number of defects on properties, saving time and thousands of pounds spent on remedial works, and ultimately improving the quality of new homes.”
Trade Talks cost £190 + VAT for registered builders (£210 + VAT for others) per Talk for a maximum of 12 attendees. A 10% discount is offered for two or more talks run consecutively at the same venue.
