The contract for the National Forensic Mental Health Hospital (NFMHS) in Portrane was awarded by Health Service Executive. The project, which marks OHL’s project in the Irish market, involves the construction of a mental health hospital, covering a surface area of 24,000m2 and 170 rooms. Although this will be OHL’s first project to reach site, the company had previously been part of the winning consortium for the North Dublin Underground but the scheme was halted during the 2008 financial crisis.
The NFMHS has been designed to provide differentiated high- and medium-security services, and includes a series of shared facilities. It will have 13 hospital rooms, a primary healthcare and therapy centre and an administrative complex. The room layout will be surrounded by a safety perimeter 5.2m high, or another equivalent structure.
