The goal is to build a line between the Bolivian city of Roboré and the community of Carmelo Peralta in Paraguay. The line would be about 500km long, with the route determined by the studies that will follow on from the agreement.
The route would provide Paraguay with access to the Pacific Ocean and improve links to the Asia Pacific region. It would also enable Bolivia to be competitive in sending its products across the Atlantic.
The treaty will be implemented through the Ministries of Works of Paraguay and Bolivia.
