The plan to modernise the Eiffel Tower includes the creation of new reception areas, better management of queues, upgrades to the one of the lower levels and some of the elevators, extensive painting and improved security. The investments would amount to €20m a year for 15 years, up from €13.7m today.
The Eiffel Tower, which inaugurated at the Universal Exhibition of 1889 is one of the the most visited monuments in the world, with six million visitors a year. Mayor Anne Hidalgo aims to enhance the quality of culture and tourism as the city is a candidate for hosting the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and Expo 2025.
