The Barbour ABI data shows that £12bn-worth of construction projects were put on hold in the 12 months from September 2014 to August 2015. This compares to £8.6bn in the previous 12 months.
Projects ‘on hold’ are defined by Barbour ABI as those with ‘no imminent plans to go out to tender or build on site’.
London and the Southeast has experienced the biggest rise in projects being put on hold, jumping by 49% in the last 12 months, followed by northern England with an increase of 37%, Barbour ABI said.
