Town and Country Housing Association had been set to redevelop the town’s Newington estate on behalf of the local council but dropped out in early March, leaving the scheme in doubt.
Now Orbit South, a housing association that already owns and manages 2,800 rented homes in the Ramsgate area, has stepped in.
The plans will see the Centre, which has been plagued by anti-social behaviour in recent years, demolished and replaced with 21 new houses and six apartments. Work also includes a new commercial building and road improvements, with the roundabout at the Centre removed.
The Homes & Communities Agency, the national housing and regeneration agency, has also now confirmed its financial support for the scheme.
