Robertson began mobilising on campus last week under an £18m main works contract
The project creates a new main entrance to the university and relocates the main social areas and student services departments to the centre of the campus.
The lower floors of two major buildings, called George Moore and Hamish Wood, will be renovated. An official university reception area – a showcase, glass pavilion – will be created at the front of the Hamish Wood building which will also incorporate the entrance to the Glasgow School for Business & Society.
The Hamish Wood will get new teaching and conference facilities, while the George Moore building will have a new restaurant with a wall of windows overlooking courtyard gardens.
