The warning follows an incident on a Mansell site on 29 March when the ‘stop’ button on a Pop Up+ scissor lift failed to work. The basket kept rising until it made contact with a structure above, forcing the operator to crouch in the basket for protection. Another worker was able to lower the basket using the ground level controls
Mansell’s parent company Balfour Beatty has issued a safety bulletin recommending sites ensure that all such equipment on site has a current thorough test and examination certificate. It also calls for all equipment controls to be checked before use by a certified operator.
