The high-tech centre in Belfort includes an automated underground system to deliver supplies to a new 800-bed hospital being built alongside.
Mott MacDonald had previously acted as lenders’ technical advisor on the public-private partnership project, providing technical, operational, maintenance, cost and contractual advice.
The 14,000m2 facility will accommodate laundry, kitchen, warehouse and pharmacy services, as well as maintenance rooms and administrative offices for the hospital. It will also provide these services for five surrounding hospitals and medical centres.
Mott MacDonald’s project director Erwann Pilé said: “One of the most interesting aspects of this project is the use of automated guided vehicles which will transit drug treatments, meals and laundry through an underground gallery from the logistic areas to the new hospital. The use of such automatic robots is currently being used in health and industrial facilities.”
The hospital logistic centre is due to be completed early 2015. The procurement scheme is a public-private partnership contract covering 25 years of operation after the project handover.
