The owner and operator of the tunnel is DC Water, the District of Columbia Water & Sewer Authority.
The project is a joint venture between Skanska, Traylor Brothers and Jay Dee construction companies. The total project amounts to US$331m, with Skanska’s share amounting to 25%.
The scheme is part of a US$2bn plan to clean up and upgrade Washington’s waterways. Work includes construction of about 7km of 7m-diameter precast concrete tunnel under the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers. Skanska’s work will start this month and will be completed in August 2015.
