Developer and Maple Grove wants to demolish a high street building and replace it with a retail arcade. It is working in partnership with Lovell, which proposes building 220 houses and apartments in two locations in the town.
Initial plans, submitted last year, were rejected by Craven District Council, primarily over concerns about loss of essential car parking in the town, which relies on tourist traffic as well as shoppers from around the Yorkshire Dales.
Revised plans have been met with identical complaints, with further concern that it would leave the town hall isolated and without suitable car parking facilities. Â This is despite Maple Grove and Lovell working in joint venture with the council.
Local residents have made their opposition to the scheme loud and clear through the letters pages of local organ The Craven Herald.
The planning committee will submit its comments to the full council, which is expected to consider the application in September.
