Dominion Virginia Power is building the new facilities in Isle of Wight, Louisa and Powhatan counties. The solar projects received approval from the State Corporation Commission on 30 June.
Dominion’s construction contractor Amec Foster Wheeler plans to hold job fairs in Powhatan and Charlottesville to fill the hundreds of vacancies that will be created in the construction trades.
Amec Foster Wheeler is seeking electricians, general labourers, carpenters, solar panel installers and heavy equipment operators. General construction experience is required, but on-the-job training will be offered. The three solar facilities – to be located in Isle of Wight, Louisa and Powhatan counties – will employ a total of about 800 workers during the construction phase, which is expected to take about six months.
Dominion is committed to developing 400MW of solar energy in Virginia by 2020. Â
