South Bank University advertised in September 2016 for a developer to take the leasehold of the site, spend up to £500m on overhauling university facilities, and up to £1bn on its own developments on surplus land. ()
However, the university has now dropped its Technopark project, saying simply: “This procurement procedure has been discontinued following a review of LSBU's estates' strategy.”
A spokesperson for LSBU added: “There are currently two major capital developments being planned for the Southwark campus. It was decided that, in order to maintain the day to day business of the university and minimise disruption to students, the Technopark redevelopment project would be postponed. It continues to be part of our longer term plans for the campus and will be considered in 2020 on completion of the current planned developments.”
