Refurbishment of the BalaÃdos Stadium in Vigo includes the replacement of the existing roof with a new one.
Consultant FHECOR has been appointed to study the effect of the new roof on the existing structure of the RÃo Stand. This part of the stadium was built in 1981 after that the city of Vigo was selected as a venue for the 1982 World Cup.
The existing roof is a three-dimensional steel truss supported every 8.4m on two concrete columns located at the upper level of the frame structure of the stand. It will be replaced with a spatial steel structure, which will support a new architectural skin that will cover the new roof as well as the façade.
The change in roof layout involves a modification of the internal forces acting on the existing structure, which may require reinforcement.
