Specialist contractors’ lobby group expands

16 Aug 11 The National Specialist Contractors’ Council (NSCC) increases its representation of the specialist sector from 1 September with the addition of two new member organisations, the British Woodworking Federation (BWF) and the Door and Hardware Federation (DHF), .

The BWF is the trade association for the woodworking and joinery industry and its membership includes 174 companies who install the products they make. The BWF offers advice and support to its members including training services through the Woodworking Industry Training Forum. The NSCC said that the BWF shared its commitment to apprenticeships and will support the drive to help employers take on apprentices.

The DHF represents manufacturers and installers of industrial, pedestrian and garage doors and locks and building hardware. The DHF sets minimum standards for its members regarding workmanship, quality assurance, training, safety and business integrity.

The addition of the BWF and DHF brings the number of organisations under the NSCC umbrella to 32, representing more than 7,000 businesses engaged in the construction of the built environment in both the commercial and domestic sectors.

NSCC president David Jones said: “The BWF and DHF will give even more weight to NSCC as the representative body for specialist contractors. The fact that NSCC continues to increase its membership demonstrates the value of the representation, benefits and support that it provides. We are looking forward to providing an even more effective lobbying voice for issues affecting the specialist sector going forward.”
