The contractors actually mobilised in February but it took until a visit from Welsh first minister Carwyn Jones yesterday for the project to be declared officially underway.
The £56.7m project is designed to ease congestion and improve road safety. The A477 from St Clears to Pembroke Dock is one of the main road links in West Wales and is recognised as an important part of the Welsh Assembly government’s strategic road network.
The scheme will deliver approximately 8.7km of new trunk road with a significant number of bridge and underpass structures, drainage works, pipeline crossings and access, together with visibility improvements to the existing road.
Completion is expected in January 2014.
SRB Civil Engineering was brought on board in 2010 through the early contractor involvement (ECI) procurement route. Gifford has provided engineering support on the project.
