Under a £4.3m contract, Stepnell will refurbish the existing two-storey section of Stowe School’s science building, demolish its single-storey extension and replace it with a new-build two-storey extension.
Externally, the extended building will feature extensive glazed facades. The new entrance will be fully glazed and sheltered by a brise-soleil sun shading system.
Work has just started on the new facilities and completion is due by October 2016.
This latest project follows Stepnell’s construction of Stowe’s new Music School, which opened in 2013.
“We’re very excited to be working once again with Stowe School to deliver these state-of-the-art educational facilities,” said Stepnell area manager Steve Burgess. “The Science building project will create a first-class learning environment, designed and built to the highest standard, to meet the needs of the increasing number of pupils choosing to study science. Stepnell will draw on its extensive experience of building in ‘live’ educational settings, liaising closely with the school throughout the construction programme.”
