The work involves construction of a new line, T2, and extension of the first line, T1. Casablanca, which has a population of more than four million, is the largest city in Morocco and one of Africa’s five largest cities but public transport currently only meets 15% of urban travel needs.
The new services are due for commissioning within 39 months.
“We are both delighted and proud to have won this contract,” said Nicolas Kaeser, SVP Europe & Mediterranean at Systra. “It’s a major project, which will allow us to showcase Systra’s extensive expertise in LRT. This project will allow us to consolidate our position in urban transport systems in Morocco and establish ourselves as the benchmark in engineering in North Africa”
Systra had already carried out the project management contract for Casablanca’s 31km first line, which was delivered within 30 months for commissioning in December 2012. It also won the contract to update the city’s transport master plan and produce preliminary designs for the second line.
