The mission follows on from a previous project, under way since 2011, and aims to meet increasing rail transport demands in Corsica, where ridership has increased by more than 50% in five years.
The network’s capacity is being increased through the implementation of centralised traffic management and the creation of passing track sections. Systra will project manage all stages of the work, from design to post-implementation support.
The main challenge of the project is that the network will continue to operate while the work is underway.
Previous Corsican projects carried out by Systra have included track rehabilitation, monitoring construction on the maintenance depot at Casamozza, several studies on passing speed, the implementation of a tram-train and the reopening of the Plaine Orientale line.
