Peak Valley Housing Association and Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council are the landowners of the site which now has the green light for the development of a 90,000 sq ft Tesco store and other community facilities.
The scheme is part of the Masterplan for the area and has the support of partners Peak Valley Housing Association, Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council, the Homes and Communities Agency, developer CTP and the majority of the 7,000 Hattersley residents.
The new development will comprise a Tesco Extra, plus a 'community hub' which will provide a base for the library service, Hattersley Neighbourhood Partnership, the police, the community association, Peak Valley Housing Association offices as well as numerous other community groups.
It is anticipated that work on the new development will start in April 2011 with the new store expected to open for business around Easter 2012. The new community facilities are likely to be ready at the same time.Â
