This is the third development that Denne is undertaking in the town. It involves the demolition of former nurses’ accommodation on Pankhurst Avenue in the southwest corner of the Brighton General Hospital campus to make way for 40 units for affordable rent and 55 units under shared ownership. It will also include a children’s playground and additional recreational space.
The project is due for completion in the summer of 2013.
As part of the contract, Denne has set up a skills centre, accredited by the National Skills Academy for ե֭, to create several work experience placements and apprenticeships for local people on projects across Brighton.
Managing director Graham Brown said: “This is a unique development at the hospital campus which will provide the city with much-needed, affordable accommodation. Brighton is increasingly becoming a core area for Denne, and we will remain committed to bringing community engagement initiatives, like the Skills Centre, to the city for the duration of our projects.”
