Letchworth Roofing in Hertfordshire has both a contracting operation and a merchanting division. Since its foundation in 1971 by Major KH Crofton, Letchworth Roofing developed from a small family firm into a nationally recognised roofing contractor with a strong merchanting division. Group turnover topped £11m and the workforce numbered approximately 150. The company is now in the hands of insolvency specialists Paul Stanley, Dean Watson and Mary Anne Currie-Smith of Begbies Traynor.
CFL Contractors, based in Stroud, Gloucestershire, was also founded in the 1970s, as Cotswold Formworks Ltd. It offered the full range of ground work services including excavation and drainage, as well as concrete placing and formwork. Projects included Beconhill reservoir in Oxford, where it worked for main contractor Dean & Dyball.
