The university has planning permission to build a new Waterside Campus in Northampton’s Waterside Enterprise Zone.
Bowmer & Kirkland was named main contractor for the £330m development last month and will start work later this year. Now VolkerFitzpatrick has landed the infrastructure contract.
VolkerFitzpatrick has already been carrying out remediation work on the site. The full contract also includes road widening and construction elements, construction of a new road bridge across the River Nene and demolishing an existing power station façade. The new bridge will link the campus to the town centre.
Bowmer & Kirkland will then construct five main teaching buildings and refurbish an old Grade II listed engine shed for a Students’ Union building and offices.
The whole project is due to be completed in late spring 2018.
