Wates will begin construction on the 2,600 sq m project this month, with completion scheduled before the start of the next academic year in September 2013.
Facilities will include teaching spaces, a creative arts centre, a public café and a learning resource centre that will be available for community use.
Designed by architect Taylor Young, the five-storey building will also house open-plan study areas and a Jobcentre Plus.
Wates, which recently completed Liverpool John Moores University’s £37.6m Redmonds Building nearby, will use the project to generate local training and employment opportunities.
Wates was appointed to the project via the North West Õ¥Ö¼§ Hub (NWCH), which forms part of the North West Improvement & Efficiency Partnership (NWIEP).
